Leila Mortezavi Yazdi was born in Tehran, though her roots trace back to the desert regions of Yazd and Kerman. She believes that her inclination toward art, design, and construction runs deep in her lineage: her father initially worked in the production of children’s items such as strollers, toy cars, walkers, and bicycles; her mother’s constant companion was a sewing machine, which served as a platform for her creativity; her great-grandfather was one of the first photographers in the Kerman region; and her grandmother was among the earliest students of embroidery and sewing with a Singer machine in Iran. Although Leila grew up in Tehran, the memories of long journeys with her family to desert landscapes, gazing at open horizons, and wandering through the vernacular architecture of those regions played a significant role in shaping her artistic sensibilities and gradually led her toward a personal visual expression.
Leila has devoted much of her life to the world of art, working in painting, sculpture, and illustration. Despite earning two master's degrees in Mining Engineering and Industrial Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology and working in technical professions, artistic practice has always been a serious part of her life. In 2018, after being accepted into the M.A. program in Illustration at the University of Art in Tehran, she shifted to a full-time professional engagement with art. Since then, she has established her own studio, where she not only creates her artworks but also teaches painting, pottery, ceramics, and sculpture. Leila has held a solo exhibition and participated in several group exhibitions both in Iran and internationally.
